ACT to SAT conversion chart (official concordance)
The table below is the concordance published jointly by ACT and College Board. Each ACT composite maps to a single “concordant” SAT total plus a range, because the two tests are not perfectly aligned. Colleges use exactly this table when they compare applicants who submitted different tests.

Every row has its own page with the official range, the SAT percentile, college fit and the ACT Math equivalent: for example 36 ACT to SAT, 34, 33, 32, 31, 30, 29, 28, 27, 26, 25, 24, 22 and 20. The same table is sometimes called an ACT to SAT conversion scale; there is only one official version.

Which test should you take?
The tests reward slightly different strengths. The ACT is faster-paced, with more questions per minute, and (in its classic form) a Science section that is really data interpretation. The Digital SAT is shorter, adaptive, gives more time per question, and leans on reading closely and on algebra. Students who read quickly and dislike being timed tightly often prefer the SAT; students who find dense reading passages slow but handle a brisk pace well often prefer the ACT. The only reliable way to choose is to take one official practice test of each under timed conditions and compare the results with this table. Our SAT vs ACT guide walks through the differences in detail.
Reading a converted score
Concordance is about equivalence, not prediction: a 30 on the ACT does not mean you would score 1370 on the SAT, only that the two scores represent a similar standing. If you have taken the SAT, the percentile tables and the good-score guide tell you where that score lands; if you have a practice test, the SAT score calculator estimates your score from your raw answers.
