How the SAT Math score works
The Digital SAT Math section has 44 questions split into two modules of 22, with 35 minutes each and a built-in Desmos calculator throughout. About three-quarters of the questions are multiple choice and the rest are student-produced responses, where you type a number. Every correct answer is worth one raw point and there is no penalty for guessing, so you should never leave a question blank.
Your raw score out of 44 is converted to the 200–800 scale. That conversion depends on which Module 2 you received: strong performance on Module 1 (around 12 of 22 correct on the official practice tests) routes you to the harder module, whose questions are worth more and which is the only path to the top scores. The easier module caps the section in the high 500s even with every Module 2 question right.

What a good Math score looks like
The average Math score is a little over 500. A 600 puts you above roughly 75% of test-takers, a 700 above about 91%, and 750+ is typical of admitted students at engineering-focused and highly selective programs, where Math middle-50% ranges often run 760–800. If you are aiming for a STEM major, admissions readers tend to look at the Math section on its own, so it can be worth more to you than the total suggests.
Raising a Math score
Math rewards precision more than speed. Most lost points on the Digital SAT Math section come from algebra slips and misread questions rather than unknown content, so review every miss until you can explain the trap. Learn the built-in calculator well enough that graphing a system of equations is faster than solving it by hand. And because the harder module is the only route past 600, spend your first effort on being reliably accurate on Module 1: the routing decision is made before you ever see Module 2.
